The Garden Staff
Photo taken in the 1890s of Welbeck garden staff with two horses and two donkeys. Welbeck produced enough fresh fruit and vegetables to almost remain totally self sufficient throughout the early decades of the twentieth century, not bad when estate staff numbers came to over a thousand people.
Welbeck used a walled garden which surrounds the car park for the farm shop to this very day; notice the holes in the wall for fires to keep the temperature within the garden to a constant level! Woods on Welbeck have also been planted in a remise fashion so game and vegetables could be grown and reared in perfect harmony.

Welbeck Farm Shop is situated 6 miles from Worksop in Nottinghamshire on the Welbeck Estate. The shop opened in October 2006 and specialises in meat and game sourced from the Estate as well as cheeses such as Stichelton and Lincolnshire Poacher. Fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables plus the very best organic foods are always in stock.
