Welbeck Easter Barbecue

19 March 2008

The barbie season is starting early this year with a specially themed Spring Barbecue, to be hosted by the Welbeck Farm Shop on Easter Monday, 24 March, to herald the arrival of Spring in Nottinghamshire.

The Welbeck Farm Shop, based on the historic Welbeck Estate, near Worksop, encourages customers to enjoy the extra flavour of foods eaten in season.  Spring provides lots of delicious reasons to follow this policy and the farm shop team will use some of the best meats and vegetables available on the Estate at this time of year, to demonstrate the difference this little bit of food know-how brings to the plate.

The barbecue will allow shoppers to explore a menu comprising duck fat roast potatoes, served with either a fragrant Spring Lamb and Chick Pea Casserole, or a Welbeck Beef and Ale Stew with seasonal vegetables.  These recipe choices have been devised by resident chef, Andrew Norman and highlight some of the many options available to cooks wanting to eat food in season.

Children will not be left out, with some fresh limeade and Welbeck sausage hot dogs available for those with smaller appetites.  Food will be charged at reasonable prices, to allow customers to sample some of the excellent produce available.

The Spring festivities will be supported with some uplifting music from percussion band, Biorhythm, who will play in the Harley Gallery courtyard, where the shop is located.  The Harley Gallery itself will have a display of works from local artists, as well as its usual range of cutting edge furnishings and objets d’art.

Pieces on display will include new oil paintings from Retford-born, Richard Combes, an artist known for his works featuring gritty urban landscapes and architectural features, rendered with extraordinary skill, to transform the everyday into absorbing and haunting images.

Prints by Sonia Rollo, featuring spring hares, hens and chickens, as well as other farmyard animals full of character and fun, can be enjoyed, whilst visitors will also be able to view some of the fine pieces from the collection of the Dukes of Portland, housed within the Harley Gallery.

This great day out for all the family will start at 10am and run until 5pm on Easter Monday.  The Welbeck Farm Shop will have a range of excellent, in season produce available for purchase, as well as favourites such as the highly acclaimed, unpasteurised Stichelton cheese, produced on the Welbeck Estate, and the shop’s ever popular sausage range.

Welbeck Farm Shop is situated 6 miles from Worksop in Nottinghamshire on the Welbeck Estate. The shop opened in October 2006 and specialises in meat and game sourced from the Estate as well as cheeses such as Stichelton and Lincolnshire Poacher. Fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables plus the very best organic foods are always in stock.
